Probably viral: Children with cough and fever often do not have a bacterial infection, the only thing that antibiotics will be effective against.  If that is the case, then changing antibiotics will only subject them to the risks associated with inappropriate antibiotic usage.  If they are not very ill, let it run its course.  They will develop resistance to that one of hundreds of viruses which may affect child.

my child is having fever and cough. is it ok to put fan in rainy season to keep room cool?

Accepted Answer

Tylenol/fluids: Yes it should be fine to keep the room temperature comfortable. If there is a fever of 101 F or higher, Tylenol may be administered. Continue to provide fluids such as clear broth, water and juice. Follow up with your Pediatrician if there is any pain, fever lasting more than 3 days or prolonged cough. For nasal congestion, nasal saline rinses may be helpful.

Accepted Answer

: A child who was infected with COVID would not benefit at all from an antibiotic since COVID is a viral infection.  If there was a second infection, with bacteria, then antibiotics could help.  The fact that the young child recovered points to a healthy immune system working normally and not excessively.  No weak immune system here.

Needs evaluation: For a fever to be prolonged by a couple days with cough, I always recommend evaluation. It would be important to determine the cause of the symptoms, then the best treatment can be arranged, and a prognosis can be formed (WHEN you will get better etc). Fever is the body's way of fighting an infection - so I would want to know 'how bad' it really is. Chest X-ray and labs would probably help here.

Acute bronchitis?: You may have acute bronchitis. If the fever is still present after this amount of time, it may be due to a bacterial infection that may require antibiotics so see your doctor or go to an er. If the cough persists when the other symptoms resolve, bronchospasm may be present and this can also be treated by your doctor. If you smoke, you need to quit asap to reduce airway inflammation

COVID 19 symptoms: Drink fluids, monitor breathing and temperature, rest and if there is a worsening cough, fever or shortness of breath, please see your PCP. In the meantime, self isolate for at least 14 days, three days without fever, whichever is longer. The loss of tase and smell is very characteristic of COVID 19. A test may be performed per local guidelines to confirm.

what are the chances of getting a false negative? i tested for covid after 1 day of symptoms - headache, cough and fever of 37.8. but i tested negative. i still have a headache after 6 days of getting my result.
