i have recurring red sores on my tongue i thought they were canker sores and use patches to cover them, but they keep recurring every couple of weeks.

Could be...........: It could be something called geographic tongue, especially if they are not sore or uncomfortable in any way.  If it is that, it is benign and nothing to worry about.  However, without seeing you personally, there is no way to know and it could be many other conditions.  Do not apply anything to your tongue without being advised by a dentist and regardless see your dentist for an accurate diagnosis.

Canker sores: there is not medication that will cure canker sores.  Many times they are related to stress or trauma.  Some people are sensitive to SLS, an ingredient in many toothpastes, so look at the labels.  Sometimes vitamin B supplements can help reduce the frequency.  Try to reduce your stress levels.

i have been on augmentin (5 days of 10) for an ear infection. i just started getting several canker sores on my tongue mainly on the sides way back. is this from the medication?

: It is possible that Augmentine changed the bacterial Flora of the gut which has the after effect . Drink
plenty of water and watch if the complain disappears.
If symptoms continue after the course of Augmentine, also see your Dentist to check out Oral Hygiene.

will mesalamine (or other crohn's treatment medications) help with the chronic canker sore symptom of crohns?

Usually not: If your aphthous ulcers are associated with a uc flare then Mesalamine may help by reducing disease activity. Otherwise they should be managed symptomatic ally with Lidocaine or occasional topical steroids. Discuss with your gi.

Dry socket: Have the dentist or oral surgeon who extracted the tooth treat the dry socket.

what is the differences between apthasol and other canker sore drugs.

Accepted Answer

It's amazing: Many of my chronic aphthous ulcer patients swear by its effectiveness. The pharmacology is not well known but as you know those little buggers can be seriously painful. Other medicines typically help via other mechanisms such as steroids, coating, anti-inflammatory, numbing. The only bad part about Aphthasol (amlexanox) is that it's hard to find. A more natural daily choice is l-lysine, vit k and b12.

No: Cancer sores are viral in nature, and antibiotics to not work to kill viral infections. Do not bother to self medicate.

ive got a round white patch that is rather large on the side of the skin around my tonsil. it hurts to turn my neck. his of tonsillitis but it also looks similar to a canker sore. how can you tell the difference?

White patch: That's what Dentistds and Physicians spend all that time in school learning to do. Many lesions look similar to =other lesions. If it bothers you, see your DDS/DMD or MD/DO. If it lasts longer than 14 days from onset to complete disappearance, go immediately to Dentist or Physician for examination.

Herpes: This is probably herpes cold sores. Please see your dermatologist to make sure.

Canker sores are common aphthous ulcers of mouth that occur situationally, often in response to stressors, are bacterial or viral, &amp; can be treated topically with many otc products that reduce local discomfort &amp; potentially speed healing. However, oral/dental problems &amp; a number of systemic diseases cause canker sore-like lesions--crohn's, behcet's, std (sexually transmitted).
