Will mesalamine (or other crohn's treatment medications) help with the chronic canker sore symptom of crohns?

Usually not: If your aphthous ulcers are associated with a uc flare then Mesalamine may help by reducing disease activity. Otherwise they should be managed symptomatic ally with Lidocaine or occasional topical steroids. Discuss with your gi.

No: Mesalamine is known to cause aphthous stomatitis. In chohn's disease it is not unusual to see lesions in the mouth and along the entire digestive tract. Typically the treatment for these lesions are reactive and pallative consisting of topical treatments including 5% 5-aminosalicylic acid cream and other agents as well as laser therapy. Some preventative drugs are available for severe cases.

It will help, but...: Once your digestive tract symptoms have been brought under control, it will be easier to manage your oral ulcers with prescription topical steroids, such as Dexamethasone elixir. You should have your dentist collaborate with your medical doctor for more coordinated and holistic treatment of your crohn's disease.
