Oral candidiasis: Thrush, an uncommon occurrence in normal adults should warrant testing immune function &amp; HIV. If thrush is caused by something reversible (antibiotics, smoking, ill-fitting dentures, steroids or diabetes), these factors must be corrected as part of the treatment. You might try rinsing with 3% hydrogen peroxide. Don't know what you mean by being sensitive to ketoconazole. Clarify and re-ask.

Could be nothing: This is a reason for a tongue scraper to take off a normal proliferation of the cells on the top of the tongue.

Candida: Yes, because candida is an infection it can cause swelling of your tongue and more specifically the lymphoid tissue on the back of the tongue that act like lymph nodes. It should subside after the infection resolves.

Brush it: If you have a fungal infection from Candida Albicans on your tongue, the surface may have a white coating.  Vigorous brushing with a toothbrush you designate for only this purpose will clear it up over time (can take a week).  If it's not going away  - anti-fungal rinses or Diflucan (fluconazole) medication can finish it off.  Geographic tongue will have splotchy patches that move around and cannot be removed.

Yes,: Is a fungus accumulates usually on your tongue or inner cheeks. The condition is a minor problem if you're healthy. Candida infections can occur when your immune system is weakened by disease or drugs such as steroids. Eating unsweetened yogurt and acidophilus capsules will solve the problem. Rec.: see your dentist if the condition gets painful.

See a DR: Although there are good medicines to help with thush, and fungi elsewhere, more importantly...Why would you have this.  To anyone with recurrent or diffuse yeast, i suggest being checked for other infections and diabetes.  Some medications can also make a person prone to yeast (oral and inhaled steroids, for example), but even then extensive or recurrent yeast infections are rare.

hello i have a white patch on the back of my tongue. i was wondering if you can help me diffrentiate between oral candida and leukoplakia.

TRY TO "REMOVE" IT: You should  "wipe" the patch with a piece of gauze( or clean clothe). Leukoplakia  (the lesion)  will come out and you will have some bleeding where the  "plaque" was. This could also be due to candida, but this condition would probably be all over the mucosa (numerous plaques).
Keep in mind that any lesion in the back of the tongue could be cancerous. Watch!

Possibly: Candida is a yeast infection in your mouth.  We usually call it thrush.  It can cause soreness, swelling and can affect swallowing. 
It is not good to let thrush go untreated because eit can enter the bloodstream.  I would advise you to see your md or dmd asap.

No: Far from it.  White coating on tongue does not necessarily indicate anything in the gut.
