What is a white coated tongue that is not candida?

Could be nothing: This is a reason for a tongue scraper to take off a normal proliferation of the cells on the top of the tongue.

Possibly normal: A generalized white coating of the tongue that is not painful is most commonly referred to coated tongue, a buildup of desquamated epithelial cells, bacteria, and debris. Good hygiene can help reduce it. Other possibilities include hairy tongue, which is a benign hypertrophy of the filiform papillae. Both are nothing to be too concerned about. An evaluation by a dentist will confirm what it is.

Good hygiene: Brushing your tongue w a very soft toothbrush should be part of your oral hygiene regime, just as is flossing. If this doesn't help, see your dentist!

Propbably: It is probably plaque and can be removed with a brush or better yet a tongue scrapper.
