Vicodin/benadryl: Should not be a problem.    5 mg of Vicodin (hydrocodone) is a low dose especially as a one time medication.   The benadryl (diphenhydramine) will likely make you sleepy but there should NOT be a problem this one time.   By all means you should NOT consume any alcoholic beverages tonight.

Can be painful: Some teeth may elicit a lot of pain from root canal n can
Propogate to the ear. This happens on occasion if teeth are infected or just inflamed. Your doctor will monitor your situation n may change the pain medication or add an antibiotic if necessary

If infected: Amoxicillin will only help if you have a dental infection.  Please see a dentist ASAP to have this looked at.

Please : Please go and have this tooth looked at by an endodontist. Sometimes the tooth needs to be retreated. Or it could be another tooth. Anyway this demands a serious look before you are continually miserable all the time from it.

: Were you very scared when you had that procedure done? If YES, you have suffered from acute stress disorder and the symptoms should improve within a month. If NOT, have you received local anesthetic, lidocaine or novocaine, in the past?

i have two teeth broken in half and they are clearly infected. daily pain, sometimes impossible to sleep. spent $300 only gotten 10 days worth of amoxicillin. insurance will not cover root canals until october (2 months away). what should i do?

Infected teeth: Antibiotic is only short term treatment to prevent spread of infection while you cure the infection with root canal/crown or extraction/implant/crown.  You really can't wait for insurance to kick in.  Talk to Dentist about staged treatment or payment plan.  Contact Social Services for reduced fee clinics.  Seek treatment at a Dental School.  You have a dangerous infection.  Seek immediate care.

Not necessary: Both procedures can easily be performed with local anesthetic.

Asymptomatic : When the tooth is asymptomatic.  Your dentist will proceed to seat your crown.  Waiting too long can lead to tooth loss, so remember to complete your crown within 2 months, unless there are unusual circumstances which cause your dentist to wait.

Almost never: Root canal/cavity is not complicated enough that conscious sedation and/ or sedation is required.  Local anesthesia is preferred and a logical choice of anesthetics.  Stress reduction protocol such as IV is only recommended for more surgical procedure.

i had a temporary crown put in after a root canal about 1 and 1/2 years ago and have not gotten the permanent crown put in. is this bad?

Yes: You should get a permanent crown on soon after the root canal to try  to protect and preserve the tooth. The temporary crown for long term use and is not as snug fitting and is not designed for long term use.Crown.
