Activated Charcoal: Activated Charcoal is often given in cases of poisoning or overdoses.  This is because it absorbs whatever might be in the stomach before the substance reaches the small intestine where it gets absorbed into the bloodstream.  Taking the charcoal within an hour or two of Orlistat will likely reduce it's effectiveness.  Try to space the charcoal dose 3 hours between each Orlistat dose.

why does serum lipase and amylase increase during acute pancreatitis? shouldn't it decrease since there is problem with pancreas (inflammation)?

Lipase serum levels: I believe the reasons both rise in the bloodstream is because there is disruption of the pancrease (pancrelipase) and these enzymes get into the blood stream.  They are both part of the exocrine function and should not be in the blood steam.  The endocrine portion of the organ involves insulin production.  This chemical is supposed to be in the blood.  The other are designed to be released into the duodenum .

Possibilities in this location include gastritis, ulcer, splenomegaly and muscular or skeletal pains. There are too many options to hazard a guess. Can still be ur disc: your lower back is hurting because of your bulging disc, if it was your lumbar. Elevated Lipase level can be due to pancreatitis mainly, and the doctor who ordered would interpret the result in the context of the whole clinical picture, you would be much sicker if it was a severe pancreatitis or other GI tract disease. Lie on your back, warm compresses and pain killers, if no improvement c ur MD

Pancreatitis : can't think of anything other then pancreatitis.  There are few disorders that could cause lipase of 1500.  Make sure you get galbladder US if was not done, surprised they sent you home.
