i have bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) ds 800-160 how many should i take for a tooth infection. i know this is not usually taken 4 this type of infectionbut its all i have.

Not effective: Antibiotics treat different types of bacteria. Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) does not kill many of the bacteria that can cause dental abscess. It would be better to call your dentist for a prescription. This way you take the risks of side effects but it probably not work.

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) : Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) is not an antibiotic normally used for infections of the mouth, since it kills bacteria not normally associated with oral infections.

You should call the office you have an appointment with and ask for a prescription to hold you over until your appointment.

What to do: Call the dentist first thing tomorrow morning and discuss what to do. Was the cause of the infection addressed? Merely taking antibiotics will not resolve the problem. Some patients find 600mg Ibuprofen along with 300mg Acetaminophen works as well or actually even better than Hydrocodone. Or you can supplement the Hydrocodone with some Ibuprofen or Acetaminophen meanwhile.

Sub-clinical: A subclinical infection can be present for a long time. It's a balance between the bacteria and your immune system in a confined space. If the infection starts to grown and causes a bigger immune response, you'll get plenty of pain and swelling... Take care of it now.

Tooth infection?: Symptoms of any infection are those due to the body's attempts to fight the disease and this creates inflammation.  That includes swelling, tenderness, pain, fever, redness, change in tissue so that it becomes hard to the touch.   Sorry but do not know what a "sealed nerve" is.
