Overuse/Compensation: Peroneal tendonitis is an inflammation of the tendon and tendon sheath complex of the peroneus longus and brevis tendons. These tendons arise from muscles in the outside of the lower leg and course behind the fibula (ankle bone on outside of ankle). Walking on the outside of the foot (often to avoid pain on the inside of the foot or heel) can lead to this condition as can a bad ankle sprain.

Not recommended: Stretch rather than loading will help tendonitis.   So will using a roll over soled shoe, changing your gait or running distances, and rest.  Physical therapy can guide your progress and apply anti-inflammatory techniques.  Good luck.

You may have a: Circulatory issue, might be a good idea to check with your doctor. A tendonitis or injury to your tendon is a possibility as well.

It might just be: Tendonitis, but since you mention a swollen calf a clot must be ruled out. That would be considered a medical emergency and this should be evaluated immediately. Hopefully, it is just tendonitis, but you must err on the side of caution.

That is a good: Question as sometimes it is clinically difficult for us too the physicians. To be sure one can do a blood test called d-dimer test but the best and with immediate results is an ultrasound duplex test. That will immediately show if clot is there or not. Trauma can cause clots and muscle pain. So, for a sudden calf pain one has to see a doctor asap as a clot may need specific attention.

Yes: Its okay but you need to stretch before and after, not exercise too long, ice it when your done, nsaids can help, and if it's acute, you should not do it at all and rest it. You may even need it immobilized if it's real bad. See your orthopaedic surgeon.

Hard to say: There are many potential causes  of leg pain, and certainly tendonitis can be a cause.  If the pain is along a tendon sheath and it is swollen and tender, then it is probably the cause.  An exam can usually detect the cause.  Thank you for the question.
