Possibly: If there is pain in the calf without much physical exertion to worry about then, one thing to think of would be a blood clot or deep venous thrombosis (DVT). This would be especially true if the patient also has swelling, redness, tightness, and warmth to the touch. You should see someone right away if any of this is true...possibly even an ER. DVT: The most definitive way to diagnose DVT is the venous doppler of the legs. This should be done only index of clinical suspicion is pretty high with risk factors of DVT.

Probably not: DVT symptoms include calf pain, unilateral swelling, redness, warmth and a heavy achy feeling. Ultrasound is the most common diagnostic tool, but the dr can also order a d-dimer or a venogram. In a healthy 18 yo person, unless there is a family history or trauma, a negative ultrasound is very reliable. Probably not: But check with ur doc so he can ask pertinent questions and examine ur leg, edpecilly if it stops progressively improving.

Not really.: If you have a blood clot, it does not come and go......You may have just strained your calf muscle. If you think it is a blood clot, it is a medical urgency and needs to be cared for quickly.

how long can it take for sciatica to resolve? i was dx with sciatica 1 wk ago. pred&flexoril prescribed but symptoms still persist @ 15d post onset. also having tightness in calf. pain not bad but the fatigue is annoying. some days ok, others worse.

Sciatica  causes: Sciatica is used to describe any leg pain that goes with back pain. True sciatic radiciculopathy often has pain below the knee, sensation changes, and even weakness.
If it does not resolve within two weeks then testing may be required such as x-rays.

No compartment syndr: Compartment syndrome is a catastrophic event typically following a crush injury or an ischemic event, in which the pressure inside the fascial compartment rises higher than capillary perfusion pressure, effectively cutting off the blood flow to nerves & muscle cells within the compartment.  It usually requires emergency surgery (fasciotomy) to save the limb.

have l5-s1 disc bulge. i suspect atrophy and weakness of calf. would there be associated calf pain as well or other symptom i can use to confirm?

No pain necessary: Measure your calves at the widest point to confirm atrophy.  See a neurosurgeon for an evaluation for surgery.  Get some recommendations from other people in your geographic location.
