i was told that i had a deep tissue bruise in my calf about 7 years ago.  it feels pretty similar to a knot, no discoloration. is this normal?

Bruise: Bruises don't last 7 years, and neither do hematomas (blood collections). More likely there is a tear in the muscle which scarred. An MRI is needed to evaluate for other problems as well to image the soft tissues.

Cold followed by hea: In the acute phase, right after the bruise, you should put cold compress on the area, intermittently for about four hours to lessen the bleeding and swelling.  After the first day you should put hot/warm compresses to increase blood flow and resolve the injury.  Do not take Aspirin or related medications in the acute phase.

Muscle bruise Rx: Heat and gentle stretching exercises. When you are pain free, you can start strengthening and slowly return to you normal sports activities. Also otc ibuprophen or Naproxen - assuing you can safely take nsaids.

i seemingly have a burst vein under my skin on my left calf. it looks like a bruise but its not sore at all and cant recall hurting myself. its the size of a r5.00 coin and is a deep purple colour. should i come in and have it checked out?

Bruise: This is most likely a leakage of blood from a tiny vein or capillary and should fade after a week or so. Unless you note other similar spontaneous ecchymoses, bleeding from nose or gums there should be no concern or need for an examination at this time.

calf injury a week ago, causing circular contusion 4 inches wide. bruising is fading but a lump 1.5 inches long and .5 inch wide has developed two days ago deep in leg. i have mild aa and pnh, blood work good last month. concerned about a blood clot?

: Blood clots in deep veins are not palpable. Good chance it is a hematoma (collection of blood) from the injury which will slowly get smaller and harder and get absorbed. If worried see your doc for exam.

lately ive been having calf pain. feels like a sore pain that i sometimes feel when i walk and its a bit tender . no other symptoms. im 18 years old and scared it might be dvt. thoughts ? i got an ultrasound, is it possible it missed deep clots?

Probably not: DVT symptoms include calf pain, unilateral swelling, redness, warmth and a heavy achy feeling. Ultrasound is the most common diagnostic tool, but the dr can also order a d-dimer or a venogram. In a healthy 18 yo person, unless there is a family history or trauma, a negative ultrasound is very reliable. See a Dr: severe knee injuries can require surgery. It would be prudent for you to see a dr asap. The Dr can examine the area, do imaging studies and check to see if there is a patellar fracture or ligament damage. Put ice on the knee until seen today.

Seems superficial.: DVT is not characterized by something that you can feel in the skin.  What you describe could be one of several things including a clot in a superficial vein (superficial phlebitis), a hematoma or a cyst on the leg.  Try heat and Ibuprofen for one week.  If no better then you should see a vein specialist for an evaluation.

Go see MD: After a week most minor injuries to the knee should be getting better. The possible injuries are extensive and need to be evaluated by an orthopedist, sports med doc or joint specialst (rheumatologist), depending on who you have access to. Stay off it a much as possible until it is checked out.
