i am reading up on getting saline breast implants but i have lupus. have had it many years. not many flares. is it unsafe?

Stable: Depends on how stable the lupus is, any lupus internal complications (kidney, etc), blood counts, which meds you are on (especially steroids). May not be unsafe but make sure you really want breast aug. Ideally you are happy, good self-esteem, just want a little help in the chest. Bigger means more male attention but doesn't change the most important part of your sexual persona: your personality.

Yes: Generally speaking. Seek your cosmetic surgery procedures by a proficient cosmetic or plastic surgeon.

Accepted Answer

No: Although depending on your surgeon's preferences, you may be asked to wear a specifice type of bra during your early post-op period. I encourage my patients to go braless, very early on as it helps the implants settle into a natural position and it also helps in the necessary "bonding" with your new implants. The sooner you stop babying them, the sooner you will feel comfortable with them. Be well.

Yes to some extent: Yes, some of the breast ptosis or droopiness is correctable by implants alone while some patients require additional incisons on the breasts to achieve an adequate lift.

Breast Implants: A prosthesis consisting of a gellike or fluid material in a flexible sac, implanted behind or in place of a female breast in reconstructive or cosmetic surgery.

Noncontact sports OK: There is no contra-indication to non-contact sports for patients with breast implants.

Follow up is key: The long term risks of breast implants are the need for follow up. The primary danger is neglecting them. Implants are very simple machines, essentially inflatable bladders which can fail. As a foreign body, they present the same risks as many other implants with scarring or infection. When any of these situations occur, treatment should promptly follow with relatively few long term consequence.

Good question : It all depends on expectations.  I have had patients regret staying in the same cup size.  You may want to consider c cup.

why do my breast implants have symmastia?

Accepted Answer

They shouldn't : Cleavage can't be created if you are not born with it.  Implants will make your breasts larger, but they should not cross the midline(symmmastia). This can be repaired. Please search out a board certified plastic surgeon with a significant amount of breast experience.

can you get breast implants if you have cysts?

Accepted Answer

Yes: Benign cysts in the breasts should not prevent breast augmentation, but they should be completely evaluated before proceeding with augmentation surgery.
