what would cause new break through flare ups of rls i've been taking 1mg of mirapex (pramipexole) now it doesn't work i have problems at 3pm never needed meds til 7?

Flareups: Check your hemoglobin and ferritin levels to make sure you havent become anemic. Anemia can cause rls.

on opana 10 mgs ir at night for severe rls. not lasting through the night. can opana er be taken once a day?  would this cause daytime withdrawal s/s?

OpanaIR lasts on : Average between six and 13 hours with the average being somewhere around eight. Opana er lasts between six and 36 hours. I would talk to your sleep specialist about this. Having a narcotic in your system around the clock is probably not in your best interest. Switching to another narcotic may indeed be a better answer. Another possibility would be a slight increase in the dose of the ir form. Best wishes.

have a really hard time falling asleep and staying asleep through the night. much easier during the day & sleep aids give me restless legs. any advice?

No one answer: There are always suggestions for getting faster and better sleep, but no one therapy or answer fits everyone.  It may depend on your eating habits, exercise, meds, supplements, heredity, etc.  If this becomes a major problem, consult your dr. (may need a sleep study.).

RLS cause unknown: We do not know the cause of most cases of restless legs syndrome. However, low iron stores can cause it. So can neuropathies (nerve problems), kidney disease, spinal cord injuries. In most cases there is no known cause.

Restless leg syndrom: U can't rest because your legs don't want to! this is quite common and can be disturbing to many as it causes poor sleep, resulting poor quality of life. It is associated with anemia, thyroid disease, anemia etc...So i would consult doc to make sure some treatable conditions be treated first. Otherwise, there are meds to help your legs rest so you can rest..Good luck.

Depends: Rls can be a debilitating disorder. Several classes of medications are usually  tried  at higher doses. You should consult a sleep specialist trained in treating restless leg syndrome.

Restless legs: syndrome and PLMD are treated with dopamine agonists such as ropinirole (approved in RLS) or pramipexole. There are many reports in the literature of exacerbation of these symptoms by antidepressants. If tests reveal that iron levels are low iron supplementation may be prescribed.

Rule out underlying: If you think your child has RLS (actually more common than you think), you probably have - this is genetic in many cases.  Ask child to describe and of note, symptoms will only be in evening at rest as opposed to some "other diagnoses" like growing pains or musculoskeletal issues.  See physician to rule out underlying medical issues or medications that are causing and then try the behavioral treat.

Yes: Rls can be diagnosed even as a child. Most commonly, RLS at an early age runs in families. Medications and other medical conditions can trigger RLS as well.

Accepted Answer

Several: Antidepressants (prozac, paxil, (paroxetine) and others), antipsychotics (risperdol, seroquel and others), certain anti-nausea meds (metachlopramide), and sedating antihistamines (benadryl) can all aggravate restless leg syndrome (rls). However, these medications may not be able to be discontinued. Some meds may be substituted for others in the same class. Caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol may also worsen rls.
