Whey allergy: It is not unheard of to have allergic reactions to whey protein shakes.  This could include hives, angioedema or even anaphylaxis. It is conceivable that patient could have signs of lactose intolerance due to the milk proteins as well.

listen to your body: It is a processed food. A high protein diet from processed food is acidic. It is best taken with lots of fresh green vegetables and fruit which provide fresh water. Good essential fatty acids are needed and slow carbs from anti-inflammatory grains.  If taken in that way and it still causes symptoms,  don't use.

Depends: If the supplement is limited to just whey protein , when you take this drink its as if you were eating a high protein food. Should not be any risk at your age if you are healthy. Only problem is if there are other ingredients in the shake.

: Taking protein powders will not do any harm, but if you are eating a balanced diet, you do not need the supplement.
For healthy diet: http://www.choosemyplate.gov/., exercise 30 minutes/day, drink enough water daily so your urine is mostly colorless, have safe sex, no tobacco alcohol weed or street drugs.

Body building/ Whey: Many of the powders/supplements contain whey as the source of extra protein as a substrate for muscle and body building.  Generally they are safe.  If a person doesn't exercise appropriately, it can be just a source of extra calories.  So taking extra whey does not mean you will build muscle alone. Vegan/vegetarian options exist, with a soy base. I have seen new allergic reactions to whey as well.

Kidney problems: Whey protein is a milk derivative. If you are lactose intolerant this will not help you build muscle b/c it will lead to bloating and abdominal pain.  If you have no lactose intolerance, it is a good source of protein. Men need about 1.2-1.7g/kg/daily of protein to help build muscle mass.  Creatine builds muscle but with all protein you MUST drink alot of water since it is hard on the kidneys.

Not really: Rarely it can cause minor GI issues such as bloating or gas.
