Lymph nodes are typically examined physically by exam a physician first. If further imaging is needed, we typically order ultrasound. In some cases, depending on the clinical situation and physical exam, we also sometimes go directly to referral to a specialist to consider if excision or biopsy of the lymph node would be appropriate.

i have severe fatigue, nausea, loss of appetite, wt loss of 3.2 lb/1 mo,visible left neck and cervical lymphadenopathy (us confirmed). a mammogram was normal however showed an enlarged lymph node now under the left arm. cbc normal. possible lymphoma?

: The new, enlarged node should be biopsied or resected for the correct diagnosis based on your current symptoms.

had  breast u/s showed multiple fibroadenomas, complex cyst and bilateral axillary lymph nodes enlargement. painful breast+ arm with edema. possibly?

See specialist: You have a "busy" breast and with your young age it is probably dense as well.  I highly recommend you find a breast specialist who can review the films and examine you.  I have several other posts on Fibroadenoma and Cystic changes (Fibrocystic) that you can review.

Usually none: A correlation with your symptoms is required. Unless this is a workup for fever of unknown origin / weight loss / night sweats, it's unlikely that biopsy of these nodes will be helpful. You're a young man in what should be your physical prime, and lymph nodes are often big at this time in your life. If your physician is not concerned, you should not be either.

i wonder if enlarged lymphnodes that's not sore have to be cancerous? mine came after a cold but r not sore so does it have to be cancer?

No: many enlarged lymph nodes that are non tender can be of an inflammatory nature.  Similarly nodes that appear innocuous can be lymphoma in origin.  If nodes not firm, if they are not in major node sites such as jugular and over a period of time they do not enlarge or increase in number then they are benign.  If there is any question then node bx indicated.

Infection or cancer: Tuberculosis, a pneumonia or a cancer can present this way. There's no sense worrying about it. Just walk it through with a doctor. It will require further imaging, skin testing in specific people, maybe a biopsy. This is no time to think or philosophize. Just get it done. If it's TB or another infection you will want treatment quickly. You will want answers quickly in any case. Best of luck.

Yes: Sarcoidosis can be diagnosed from many areas including the skin. The lung is the most frequently involved organ, but other areas can be affected as well. Usually a biospy is needed, unless typical findings are seen on chest xray or ct scan.

Adenitis: I suspect that when you refer to stomach, you are considering the intestinal content of the abdomen and not the gastric region in particular.  When nodes are seen in the GI tract the term used is mesenteric adenitis, meaning large inflamed or abnormal glands in the mesentery of the bowel. This supports the bowel and acts as the area of blood supply to bowel.

my mayoclinic dr told me stress(health) can cause enlarged lymphnodes and to go get a massage. is this fact? i haven't seen any literature confirming

Stress and immunity: When stressed, your immune system does not function as well as it might otherwise.This could lead to an increase in infections and inflammation in your body that could lead to your lymph nodes getting enlarged. Stress also causes muscle tension, especially in the neck and shoulder area, and this can be helped with massage therapy. I think it would be a good idea to see a therapist to rule out gad.

i have  enlarged lymphnodes in right side along carotid. they r not sore but they have come after sickness so does non cancerous have to be sore?

Evaluation: You should see your doctor to be evaluated and have blood test (CBC,EBV,CMV) and if all negative you may need biopsy of nodes to R/O malignancy.
