A few: Hi Jennifer, Lymph nodes are typically examined physically by exam a physician first. If further imaging is needed, we typically order ultrasound. In some cases, depending on the clinical situation and physical exam, we also sometimes go directly to referral to a specialist to consider if excision or biopsy of the lymph node would be appropriate.
