are atrial flutter and atrial fibrillation the same as atrial tachycardia? if different, can the atrial tachycardia convert to af/afib? i have prior ablation due to avnrt svt and on pacemaker for total heart block. how come now i also get at?

: No- Flutter is often fast and regular sometimes up to 400 atrial bearts/mi. Fib is irregularly irregular. Tachy is fast and regular.  Your atrial are firing regularly. And maybe from different site than your a fib.

i was scheduled for atrial flutter ablation but doctor was unable to induce the flutter. heart healthy other than angry spot on right atrium .   suggests metropolol.  flutter was seen on ilr.  now believes it was actually atrial tachycardia. right?

my kardia device gave a report of atrial flutter with rvr and a wide qsr twice. i took a propranolol and it went to tachycardia. the next day they all been normal sinus rhythm. this is 1st time it has ever happened. should i be very concerned?

: Atrial flutter would have a rate of over 250-350 per minute with flutter waves.  A wide QRS or RVR indicates aberrant ventricular conduction during the arrhythmia. You then converted to either sinus tachycardia or every other P wave was blocked. This then reverted to NSR. Any more episodes like that would warrant an evaluation &amp; advice by a cardiologist. Appropriate testing will be ordered.

Yes: But they can be detected by a standard electrocardiogram or holter monitor as well.

Adjust meds: You need to contact your cardiologist or electrophysiologist as your medications may need to be adjusted

Depends: If a pt has chronic afib or flutter , their rate is well controlled, and they are well anticoagulated shouldnt be a problem especially if the pt is asymptomatic . If they have symptoms such as palpitations or shortness of breathe despite on a good medical program they need to be converted or ablated . Rate controll is important to avoid a cardiomyopathy and anticoagulation to prevent a stroke.

Variable : Heart rate is variable with atrial flutter and it can be quite difficult to control. Acceptable rate is less than 100-110. The most common heart rate without medication is about 150 beats per minute.

No: Atrial flutter is due to an abnormal electrical pathway. It may be triggered by anxiety if the anxiety make you have extra early beats (palpitations) which may trigger the rhythm problem.
Otherwise, atrial flutter may resolve on its own (but may return), may be controlled by medications, or may need a procedure called an ablation to cure.
