9 days ?: If your attack is lasting this long you should be checked. Status asthmaticus is a prolonged "attack" and if this is the case you may need more drug therapy than your inhalers can provide. Please do not wait any longer.

Not normal: Asthma management depends on the severity of your asthma and which medications you have been prescribed.  If you are following your doctor's recommendations and are still feeling short of breath, a visit to his/her office for evaluation is warranted.

is 60mg of prednisone daily for 5 days enough for asthma attack?

Usually: That dose for that duration should be able to significantly decrease the symptoms of asthma during an attack. However, the dose and duration of treatment will vary depending on the severity of the attack. Longer and stronger courses may be necessary. On the other hand, shorter courses of less dose can also do the trick for a molder exacerbation.

had an asthma attack a week ago (pefr, fev1, spo2 dropped to low end of the green zones) , took 3+ days to get the numbers back to normal. should i ask about a nebulizer?

Yes: I believe your asthma was not under control even though when you didn't feel any symptom prior to the attack . Thus you need to get a lung function test to find out whether you need a controller drug to prevent another attack. It is now believed that each exacerbation causes some permanent loss in lung function . All patients with asthma should have a rescue (albuterol) inhaler on hand.

3 year old has asthma attacks w/ retraction 3 days after onset of virus. had been on flovent 2xday for 2 weeks only then had another bad asthma attack after 3 days of new virus. was flovent ineffective bc of short duration or should look into new med?

: Flovent is an anti-inflammatory agent used primarily for maintaining control between episodes. It may be used as an add on to albuterol or another med used to reverse bronchospasm. This suggests you need to discuss &amp; understand how these meds work &amp; how to use them. Talk with the doc.

i went to the er today for an asthma attack and told to follow up with my pcp within 2 days. what's the reason for this? i have asthma meds.

Good to follow up: After visiting the ER it is wise to have follow up with your PCP early on. This allows to identify unresolved conditions or appropriateness of therapy.  If you had an  exacerbation while on medication it may mean that adjustments might be necessary.

Time for a visit: Call your doc and schedule a visit in the next few days. Asthma by itself should not trigger fever and chills.You may have been exposed to something a bit more worrisome than humidity in that basement.Infections are a common trigger to a flare in stable asthma.

i was diagnosed w/ bronchitis a week ago, and after taking 5 days of antibiotics, i dont have a cough anymore. however, now when i cough and phlegm comes out, i have to gasp for air for a few seconds. should i worry about an potential asthma attack?

: What you described does not induce a concern for asthma. You may do steam/vapor inhalation to loosen the phlegm so that it is easier to expectorate. Drink enough water so that your urine is mostly colorless, to make sure that you are fully hydrated.

my white blood count is 18.4..and asthma is bad now...is it ok to take prednisone for 5 days or what's my options to treat asthma attack?

Please see your MD: Don't self medicate, your wbc is high probably a steroid effect, seems your asthma is uncontrolled, see your doctor/Urgent care/ER now, later you may want to see an allergist, check aaaai.org or acaai.org for an allergist in your area, good luck

cough/mucus in chest. can't expel without stridor/asthma attack. on amox/prednisone 3 days. mucus not better. are more meds/tests needed?

Depends on why: What to do next depends on the reason you are ill.  If you have a viral infection, antibiotics won't work; influenza is not prevalent this time of year so looking for it won't help.  If you have pneumonia, Prednisone isn't helping, but you might cough for a week after the infection is gone.  If you have post nasal drip you need nasal steroids and saline rinses.  Go back to your doc and try again.
