You may also want to seek the help of a therapist who specializes in addiction, codependency and anxiety.

Security &amp; safety: The first steps in helping an anxious child would be to make sure that child is receiving lots of security inducing messages from a parent/parents.  Make sure there is nothing in the environment could be interrupted as threatening to the child.

Anxiety: I would start with counseling. The therapist will be able to evaluate her and determine the need for medication. If indicated, give the medication a try. I have found it to be very effective, along with therapy. You can always stop it.

Emotional growth: The newborn enters a world of people who cater to their needs. Early on every new face is a challenge to be explored. About 6-9mo, babies begin to realize how much more dependable their primary caregivers are & their brain does not let them understand that they can still exist if not in view. Separation means possible loss of a dependable source of comfort. As they age they learn that concept.
