is tylenol better than advil for headache?

Accepted Answer

Tylenol: They both may relieve headache. Advil has an additional effect of being anti-inflammatory and Tylenol does not but doesn't irritate the stomach lining or cause fluid retention. Because of this I would favor taking Tylenol if it's effective.

i recently starting taking advil and took my first lexapro pill for anxiety last night, over 12 hours ago. i have been using tylenol for headaches but it is not working well. can i safely take two advil? i heard lexapro can increase risk of bleeding?

: Two OTC Advil (200 mg x 2) is the average dose and you can safely take it for an acute headache as needed only with a full stomach when taking Lexapro. If you use Advil for headache too often side effects can happen, and one of them is called analgesic headache. If you have chronic headache, you should see a doctor or better a neurologist for a correct diagnosis and preventive treatment.

i have tension headaches almost every day. advil/tylenol doesn't always help. what can i do to get rid of them?

Tension Headache?: I believe that your question mush first be answered with a question. Was it a physician who diagnosed your headaches as tension headaches? If the answer is yes, there may be choices of additional meds that can be added to the AdvilTylenol.However it should be the diagnosing physician who should add additional meds. If you made the diagnosis of "tension" headache" consider consulting a neurologist

i'm currently on viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride).  is it ok to take the occasional excedrin or advil? tylenol doesn't really help my headaches.

Occasional ok: Occasional Motrin is ok. However ssris affect platelet aggregation which can lead to easy bruising. Take Motrin with food or milk to avoid developing a gastric ulcer. If you are having migraines often consider Topamax (topiramate) or elavil for prevention.

i want to cleanse from the pain killers (tylenol, advil, (ibuprofen) & aleve) i've been taking for cronic headaches. how long before its all out of my system?

Chronic NSAID's+Tyl: These medications won't be detectible in your system within a few days after last use. Multiple problems are associated with long term use of these medications & some can persist even after complete cessation. Chances are you have not exhausted your body's reserve in handling these medications. Don't be surprised if your gerd (profile) & headaches improve after you stop these.

i tested positive for covid last week and today is the last day of my isolation period. however, ive had an extremely bad headache since yesterday. sharp stabbing pain on the left side of my head near my temple. takes my breath away when it happens. neither advil nor tylenol have seemed to work for it. what should i do?

Need to examine: If you can access your doctor by phone, it would be useful to consult with the doctor. If you have breathing difficulty, go to the nearest hospital emergency department. Do wear a mask and maintain social distancing.

: It is a headache as you describe it.  You need to find out what is causing it which will help you get it under control.  Not likely sinus from the limited info you give us.  Discuss with your local Drs.

Advil (ibuprofen): If you took advil (ibuprofen) let your obgyn know about it. To be safe. Also get your BP checked.

im having these really bad headaches and asprin is not helping what should i do? i've had these headaches for 2 days.its a throbbing pain. i took tyenol, advil, (ibuprofen) and bc headache powder. the pain is not as bad but never goes away?

A : A new or changing headache is a reason to seek medical attention. Headaches can be primary -- meaning that the headache is not caused by something else, or secondary -- meaning that there is another cause for the headache. Secondary headaches need to be investigated further in order to determine their cause.

Using too much over the counter pain medicine can lead to a rebound headache from medication overuse and this is the most common cause of chronic daily headaches.
