Eating: The guidelines haven't changed that much. Basically, you want to eat mostly lean protein, fruit, vegetables, and try not to eat much carbohydrates. If you limit yourself to 1000-1200 calories per day, and do cardiovascular exercise 3-4 times a week, you should lose excess weight.

Bypass & pregnant: Yes. A woman can safely go through a pregnancy after having a gastric bypass. It is recommended to wait at least a year after having the bypass before getting pregnant. You must take prenatal vitamins on top of the vitamins you would take for the bypass to ensure that a nutritional deficiency doesn't develop.

Vitamin D : I am happy to hear you are wiling to take vitamin d. You are ahead of the curve.  You will read a lot of different recommendations online about this. I have my patients take 2000 units to 5000 units/day. It is, actually, safe to take up to 10, 000 units/day.

Bariatrics: The gastric band is one of the many bariatric surgical procedures. It may be that your bariatric surgeon was advising the lap band as your best choice in considering your particular risk/benefit analysis. A second opinion or taking family/friend with you to your surgeon for more discussion is reasonable. Good luck.

The Good and bad: Gastric bypass is effective but it's a rather complicated surgery and requires lifestyle commitment to healthy eating and exercise. It's not a guarantee to lose weight but an effective procedure for one who is ready for the change. Surgery potentially could have complications post op and you're at risk of malabsorption so need to take vitamins daily &most importantly take protein 60+grams daily.
