Bariatrics: The gastric band is one of the many bariatric surgical procedures. It may be that your bariatric surgeon was advising the lap band as your best choice in considering your particular risk/benefit analysis. A second opinion or taking family/friend with you to your surgeon for more discussion is reasonable. Good luck.

Lap band: There are a lot of factors that go into selecting which operation is ideal for a patient and not enough room to answer that here. Bands are often selected in people who have less weight to lose, who are volume eaters, and are not sweet eaters. I'd be happy to discuss this further with you.
