Absolutely, Always: Fat storage is driven by carbs, not fat in food. Ability to burn sugar for energy is limited. Fate sugar  inside cells: 1. Krebs cycle-limited, 2. Store as glycogen-limited, 3. Bind to proteins-very limited &amp; not healthy, 4. Convert to triglyceride fats &amp; export for storage. Continued carb intake drives cells to quit taking in sugars (despite insulin+amylin), called Insulin resistance &gt;&gt; diabetes!

i am an endomporph is 50 to 100 grams of carbs per day enough to give me energy for my boxing workouts?

Accepted Answer

Only If...: You eat the majority of those carbs about 45 min-1 hour prior to your workout.  Even still, you will be very tired at the end of the workout.  If you are an endomorph, why do you restrict your carb intake to such low levels, are you trying to make weight or something?  If not, increase them, until you feel like you have enough energy to be at your full potential while performing your workout.

No: You would need more carbs than 100g.  More information is needed to assess you fully.  100g of carbs would not last you through part of a workout.

Trainer/nutritionist: It may not be your total number of carbs (kcal) a day but may be the way you are setup for training. You will need to match the appropriate glycemic index foods at different times of day to support your work outs or training sessions. You should consider using a trainor for a short while to help you with your overall program including diet and recovery foods.

Good oils: Coconut oil is excellent. It is high in medium chain fats that enter easily into cells to be burned for energy. Add one tablespoon to each meal.

Holiday: Take a 24 hour holiday from your low carbs - not to say you should binge. Just ease up on the low carb aspect for a day. This helps prevent cravings and will help your energy level.

Nuts and..: Try nuts - has proteins and oils for energy (as long as you do not have allergies). You may be able to take some grains (such as oats) as they are complex carbs and do not cause the "sugar rush" that is a concern for some. Clearly this is more complicated depending on your goals and underlying medical condition.

Sure: Voluntarily diet choices can be pursued by any individual. I would be careful with medication effects on any new diet.  One needs to seek urgent medical attention if ketosis occur as medical condition.  Narcolepsy itself does not cause ketosis.

if i start a low carb diet after being off for 3 to 4 weeks, will my body have to go through that same "low energy" for those first two weeks again?

Accepted Answer

No: There is really no good reason to have low energy on a 'low carb' diet if your getting enough calories. I f you are on a protein sparing modified fast diet like optifast or medifast (very low calorie diets)you may experience some fatigue. Be sure you get enough good quality protein, adequate rest and some reasonable exercise. Low refined/white carb/sugar diets are healthy.

ive lost weight/had a very slight energy increase on a protein/vege/healthyfats diet. im grain free , glutenfree & low carb. should i keep this diet?

It's up to you: If you feel better, yes. If it's too hard to follow, no.
