See below: A strep throat will usually resolve without treatment but failing to take appropriate antibiotics can permit complications to occur such as a retropharyngeal abscess or septic thrombophlebitis of the neck veins. Failure to take a full course of antibiotics, usually 10 days can allow non infectious sequella ie. Rheumatic fever or post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis to occur.
