For the past few weeks, i've had to strain and been in pain after passing stool, i feel like i can't empty out all the way i have cramps and mucus in stool, i've tried laxatives and enema .. my mom passed from colon cancer so i'm a little concerned?

Your symptoms, though not so uncommon, are also not specific enough to give a definite diagnosis. You could suffer from issues in the GI tract such as irritable Bowel syndrome, Chrohn's, Ulcerative colitis, infection or others. However, since you do have a family history of colon cancer (Your mom), I would seek the opinion of a gastroenterologist, who would likely suggest a colonoscopy.

As others have stated, you may need further evaluation. Maintaining a regular diet with sufficient fiber is important as is maintaining proper hydration.
