A member asked:

I kissed a guy (closed mouth) and he sucked me (unprotected) who either had a cranker sore or cold sore inside of his lip (i believe it was the former, but not certain), and a mole on the outside. could i get herpes from this? if so, what should i do?

Herpes is usually outside the mouth & starts as small vesicles (like blisters) which open into small sores, so it sounds unlikely that this person had that, though not impossible. But people can carry the herpes virus & transmit it even without having obvious blisters or sores. There is not much one can do if exposed to herpes but get treated if lesions develop. There is no safe sex!

Agree with Dr. Bickel. HSV 1 and HSV 2 can be transmitted even in the absence of visible lesion. Get HPV vaccine. Safe sex: https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/wellness-and-prevention/safer-sex-guidelines
