Virology : Herpes 1 is a common infection and is not considered a STD. Herpes 2 is considered a STD. IgM is an antibody produced upon the initial exposure to the infection and then later decreases. IgG is produced after IgM has passed its peak. IgG indicates a prior exposure (month to years) whereas IgM indicates a recent infection (days to months). IgG circulates after infection clears, but IgM does not.
