A member asked:

I recently had a smear and it has come back abnormal. it says hpv and severe dyskaryosis. im being sent an appointment for a colposcopy which of course i will attend. does this mean i have cancer. i know i need to wait for the results but im worried?

Be patient: The transition from high risk HPV infection to cancer, if it ever happens, takes time, often decades. Dyskeratosis just means there is enough tissue change to require further evaluation. It is not the name of a cancer. We have been doing Pap's & this followup for decades before we understood the link to HPV. You have time & your team is doing what is needed. Good luck.
