A member asked:

I had a colposcopy done january last year, a biopsy was not done. i have hpv. does that mean i do not have the type that causes cancer?

Not necessarily. Only a small minority of women infected the cancer causing strains of HPV actually get cancer. Colposcopy likely did not reveal any abnormality that would have warranted a biopsy. Do get repeat PAPs as advised by your doctor. Wish you good health!

HPV is implicated in cervical cancer. If no biopsy was done you did not need one.
