A member asked:

Had a flat light brown area that biopsy showed it was a seborrheic keratosis. path report asked if i wanted it to be tested for hpv because it was on my groin - not actual genital. very confused. always have normal paps. how could this be hpv related?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Basics: The offer of a test is not a suggestion the original issue had anything to do with HPV. Many studies cite >70% of college age women show blood evidence of past HPV & confirmation through a study may lead to better adherence to recommended paps. Common skin warts are also HPV strains but differ from those of genital warts or cervical cancer.
