Can vagina infection lead to cervical cancer?

Dr. Alvin Lin answered

HPV: There are many types of human papilloma virus (HPV), some of which can cause cervical cancer (http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/cervical-cancer/expert-answers/cervical-cancer/faq-20057909). That's why HPV vaccinations can prevent cervical cancer (although we still recommend regular Pap smears).
