Probably not herpes: This doesn't sound like herpes. A recurrent herpes outbreak could occur in a skin crease, but it's not typical. And a first herpes outbreak would be at the site of inoculation, i.e. direclty on the genitals, usually with multiple lesions. Finally, deeper lesions typically are folliculitis, pimples, etc (think of them as starting "in" the skin), whereas herpes is superficial ("on" the skin).
