Hemmorhoids: Many people present with piles and this can actually be the issue or one of many other problems that your doctor can help

Is something in my 9-month-old's diet causing him to pass very hard stools?

Yes: A lot of 9 month old babies begin to rely more on food and less on liquid for their daily nutritional needs. Very often, a baby gets a bit constipated at 9 months due to a decrease in their fluid intake. Adding some extra formula, breast milk, water, or even water mixed with a small amount of prune juice or white grape juice can often solve this problem. If it persists, consult your doctor.

What is normal baby poop?

Pediatrics 13 years experience
Varies with age/food: The first couple days the poop is thick, dark and tarry. On day 3-5 of life poops generally change to yellow and seedy- this happens as your milk comes in. Poops will stay a liquid consistency until you introduce solids foods sometime between 4-6 months. Colors may range from brown to green to yellow. If your baby's poops are ever red, black or white call your pediatrician.

What does normal baby poop look like?

Pretty much aything.: Normal colors are shades of brown, yellow, and green; black, white or bloody is abnormal (although some foods can make it in those colors). "too hard" and "too watery" are really subjective measures -- we call it diarrhea if there are too many watery stools with discomfort, and constipation if the child seems to suffer from inability to pass. And breast milk makes a classic "yellow seedy" stool.

Stool sample: You would be given containers by a lab to collect stool, which would be tested for certain bacteria.

Got a bump when I poop. I don't think it's a hemorhoid, so what could it be?

Hemorrhoid or polyp?: "bumps" when having a bowel movement commonly are internal hemorrhoids that prolapse when straining. Sometimes a rectal polyp can prolapse as well, or even rectal tissue itself. Hemorrhoidal "tags" can also prolapse. This should be evaluated by a surgeon with either in office examination or even colonoscopy if there is blood on toilet paper during bowel movements.
