A member asked:

Regarding syphilis:could being on 2 antibiotics(metordinazole, ciprofloaxine) in october give a false negative to rpr test done in december?

False negative RPR: The RPR is a screening test which is sensitive but may not be as specific. Despite the sensitivity there may be false negative results, and these can be due to multiple factors. If you have been exposed to syphilis and are concerned suggest you be retested with RPR and more specific tests if this is positive. Treatment of syphilis with antibiotics may reverse seropositivity.

No : Those medications do not cause a false positive syphilis test.
