Miscarriage: The advantage of a d and c is that it can be done quickly and you know when it is going to happen. Misoprostol or Cytotec (misoprostol) is usually effective. However, it doesn't always work on the first dose. Sometimes it may take 3 doses, so you end up cramping for a long time before the miscarriage happens. It is effective about 75% of the time. It can be very uncomfortable.
