Tender Gums: Is common after root canal procedure because of instrumentation and due to the fact that the tooth still needs time to heal based on the current condition before the treatment was started. The clamp to secure and hold the rubber dam to protect the patient from swallowing small instruments was placed by the neck of the tooth and can sometimes irritate the gums, e.G, no enough tooth structure left.

Root canal: Most doctors use a rubber dam or shield to treat the root canal and there is a clamp that holds it around the tooth-that may be a possibility as to why there is redness. Some times some of the liquids that are used to clean the root canal are acidic and that may irritate the tissue also.
