See your dentist: Inflammation of the gums, of which redness is just one aspect, is a warning sign that there is a problem. It is typical of disease states like mild gingivitis, chronic periodontitis, acute necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis (anug), and others. If you have red inflamed gums, you have a problem. Go see your dentist and get treated.

Bacteria: Bacteria causes inflammation. Use a soft toothbrush in circles over all the gums where they join the teeth. Water pik is great after brushing, Peridex (chlorhexidine gluconate) (rx by dentist) soak disables the bacteria to stimulate healing. You may need a dentist to do a deeper cleaning to get out the bacteria etc. That is under the gums where you cannot get to.
