No!: Invisalign requires much cooperation and attention/responsibility .. I prefer to do invisalign on 18-20 year-olds, at the youngest!

Contraindication: Invisalign works best when all secondary teeth (permanent teeth) have erupted. Not sure if this is the case for the patient in question, but even if it is, compliance in wearing the aligners may be difficult at that age. Consult with an orthodontist regarding traditional orthodontic brackets and wires.

Ortho on 12 yr old: Start my choosing a great orthodontist and not which method is possible or best to use. Get a consult and see when and if to start orthodontic treatment. Seeing a general dentist first for an exam and cleaning is even a better first step. Then the dentist can refer you to someone he\she knows is excellent.

Yes: As long as the 12 year old is responsible, and can will faithfully wear his/her aligners, invisalign is a good choice for orthodontic care.

Not recommended: many orthodontist will point you in that direction as its more profitable. That said, we do not recommend it at all and will only treat a teenager if the parents are adamant about it (in contrast we treat TONS of adults with it). kids lose the aligners (expensive), it costs you the parent more money and they do not have the sigma of braces that adults can potentially face

Wrong emphasis: Instead of treatment being appliance driven, it should be service provider driven. Malocclusions are like snowflakes, no two are exactly alike. So find the best fully qualified Orthodontic Specialist you can an follow his/her advice. The gold standard is still braces, aligners don't work as well and usually cost more. There's also the compliance issue in a 12 year old.

Regular Braces: I wouldn't recommend invisalign treatment for a 12yr old. See your orthodontist for evaluation, diagnosis and treatment plan. Good luck!
