White or silver?: A white filling, or tooth colored, can be cleaned right after placement since it is cured by a light source and hardened immediately. However, a silver alloy filling takes a few minutes to harden and should not be cleaned within an hour of placement. Temporary filling materials need to be carefully maintained.
