Why?: if you have bad gums you need a thorough job, and your gums may bleed. The rubber dam is placed to protect the fillings from contamination, it is more difficult with bleeding gums. If you get the filling before the deep cleaning and you have cavities under the gum level, the fillings may not adapt properly. Discuss the Pros and Cons with your dentist.
