Depends: Depends on the location of the infection, severity of the infection and the ability of the antibiotic to get to that area in sufficient strength. If it is an endodontic abscess, root canal treatment or tooth extraction are the definitive treatments. If acute periodontal gumline abscess, placement of Arestin into the gumline pocket works within 2 weeks. Addtl periodontal procedures may be needed.
