Manageable?: Hans selye, who first studied stress scientifically, distinguished "good stress" / "eustress" (what drives you to achieve & build a better life) from "distress" (abuse, impossible situations). It's not the amount; it's what you're able to do. Get help with real-life situations -- new approaches, escape from abuse -- and remember feeling stress lets you know you're not dead or totally defeated.

Selye Stress Model: Acute stress can be a harrowing fight/flight/freeze, but chronic stress is more damaging. The resistance phase of stress can last a long time, before things proceed into the harder-to-treat exhaustion phase. In the resistance phase you might be functioning, but are irritable & getting sick more often with colds, etc, exhaustion phase can have more autoimmune/chronic fatigue and apathy issues.
