Apnea: any age or wt: Apnea is not just caused by being overweight. It can happen in babies or seniors. The structure of your face and upper airway has a lot to do with it. Klonopin (clonazepam) might not be safe with apnea depending on the type, obstructive, central or mixed. Do not stop the Klonopin (clonazepam) suddenly. Talk to your md and ask them to refer you for sleep testing.

Sleep disturbances : Yes it could be sleep apnea. Get evaluated by a sleep doctor to determine if a sleep study should be performed. Klonopin (clonazepam) is not necessarily unsafe for sleep apnea but central nervous system medications/depressants in general can affect sleep and also breathing during sleep. But it may be necessary to use this medication so do not discontinue it without checking with the prescriber.

Possibly: Clonazepam is a benzodiazepine and can worsen underlying sleep apnea. You don't have to be overweight to have sleep apnea - if your jaw is recessed or you have large tonsils, you may be at risk. Your sleep issues may be due to sleep apnea - if so, treating the sleep apnea may help with your insomnia issues. Check with your doctor - cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia may also be helpful.
