Klonopin (clonazepam): Klonopin (clonazepam) is a sedating medication, a benzodiazepine, that can also be habit forming. It is sometimes used for sleep, but should not be used for extended periods because it can induce tolerance (requiring more drug for same effect). I strongly suggest working with your doctor to get to the bottom of your sleep issues, rather than covering them up. A psychiatrist or psychologist may help.

It can be.: Benzodiazepines, like klonopin, xanax, (alprazolam) and valium, work on the same receptor in the CNS as alcohol does, and can cause CNS depression. This can be dangerous when mental acuity is necessary, such as when you drive a vehicle. Tolerance and dependence can occur with chronic use. It can cause anterograde amnesia, similar to a 'blackout.' you may want to discuss alternative hypnotics with your doctor.
