Eat less; do sit-ups: To help the tummy look flatter, one can do exercises to build very strong abdominal muscles. It will take a lot of work, and will burn off calories. One must not eat more calories than he burns off, or he cannot lose weight. Helpful weight loss foods are low-carb natural foods that take time to chew but contain few calories. Examples include carrots, celery, leafy green lettuce (without dressing).

In reality: There is no specific exercise that targets only stomach fat. If you'd like to decrease you stomach fat, you'll have to focus on overall fat/weight reduction. Where that fat reduction may come from is mostly genetic based. It's just as in the case when you gain body fat, it may go to your hips or your buttocks or your thighs or your belly or your fat ... but you can't control it.

Cardiovascular.: Reducing fat from any place on the body requires cardiovascular exercise. Weight training shapes and builds the muscles underneath the fat, but cardiovascular work burns the fat.
