Why do i see white flashes with my eyes shut?

Could be retina : When you have flashes of light we worry that you could have some traction that is stimulating your retina. This can occasionally lead to a tear in the retina. If they are light lightning bolts in your peripheral vision it would be a good idea to have an eye exam.

Possible retina tear: Flashes of light that occur in the dark (or with eyes shut) can be a sign of vitreous detachment, retinal tear, or retinal detachment. The flashes are caused by traction on the retina which is interpreted by the brain as light flashes. You should have this evaluated urgently by an ophthalmologist.
