What causes a person to see light flashes when their eyes are closed?

Light flashes: Your description is worrisome for a retinal problem (such as a retinal tear, break, or detachment). Similar issues can be seen in other disorders (such as migraine headaches, optic nerve pathology, etc) but i would recommend seeing an eye doctor as soon as possible.
