Photopsias: Flashing lights that occur in both eyes at the same time are often migraines. A flashing light in one eye is a serious symptom for which you should see an ophthalmolgist.

Get checked: Much like you feel pain when you pull on your skin, you see flashes when something tugs on your retina. It is usually a sign of the vitreous (the gel in your eye) shrinking and pulling on your retina and this can result in a retinal tear. You should get checked by an eye doc asap.

The vitreous gel : that fills your eye is in constant contact with the retina, the film that allows you to see light in the back of your eye. Sometimes the vitreous gel tugs on the retina and this causes you to perceive a flash of light. You should have a dilated eye exam to make that the vitreous tugging did not cause a retinal tear or detachment. Be well.
