TMJ dysfunction: Is not always the case with isolated jaw "pops" and "clicks". The noise is usually a result of the fibrocartilagenous articular disc being anteriorly positioned and when the joint translates, during a phase of this translation (opening or closing) the disc "pops". Displaced disk: Displaced disk in jaw joint (TMJ). May not be a problem if not accompanied by jaw pain, limited oral opening, chewing problems, head or ear ache. If you clench and grind your teeth, or have these other TMJ symptoms, see a TMJ expert.
