Maybe nothing: Just having jaw clicking does not mean that there is anything wrong with the jaw. Clicking occurs at times due to just lax ligaments; treatment is required only if there are associated symptoms. Some of the common symptoms are jaw pain, jaw locking, jaw popping, ear pain, neck pain, headaches, ear stuffiness, and face pain. You can contact an orofacial pain dentist (find one on www.Aaop.Org).

GET Help: A clicking joint means the joint is displaced or dislocated. This will not fix itself and letting it get worse is not a good idea. See your dentist and get help or a referral to someone that treats these type of problems. Do a conservative diagnosis (splint and physical therapy) and if you can find a position that does not click, then treat to that position.

See answer: Some patients have pops and clicks in their tmj. Usually no treatment is indicated if there is no associated pain, restricted motion or loss of function. If the clicking is associated with joint problems, then treatment will be required. See a dentist for a full evaluation.
